"Unfortunately I do not have a Lotus now, nor ever had one. (I parted one
out in '91 at a junkyard that would not sell the complete car.) I sold this formerly red Cortina GT shell to Mike Haynes in '84. Mike built it in 2 weeks as his personal
car. I bought it back from him in '94. 260 cu in, 2 Carter 500's on
medium riser, 11:1 comp, big cam, headers, 4 row radiator, Super T 10
trans, narrowed 8" with Detroit locker, half cage, Lotus struts, Koni's,
7 gal auxiliary tank. This view of the engine shows the well, and the engine set back, which is well behind the center line of the struts. Note the stiffening bar in
front of radiator."
"When is a Lotus, not a Lotus? When it's a Bogus!"
"Have owned 32 Cortinas, still own 11, and 9 run. We have no modern cars,
if one breaks, we just grab another Cortina. Below is the '67 Mk II Estate, My wife's backup car and our 'trip/utility' car. Owned since '88, hot 110 HP crossflow, full GT conversion, real Lotus
trans (the trans is worth more than the car!), 3:55 gears. Standard
upgrades."

My original '68 Mk II Cortina, bought from my uncle in '74,
now with over 400,000 miles, Pinto 2000 about 160 HP, Type 9 5 speed, 3:55 gears. My 1974 solution to install the SOHC engine:
Capri 2000 metal mounts on engine (reversed), '65 Tempest trans mounts
as rubber part, this puts the engine very close to the firewall. The
Pinto is heavy so you want it back. Trans mount is Cortina or Capri
metal and rubber, spaced down & back as needed, auto tunnel helps.
Steering can hit starter, small rad fan needed. More power with loads of
torque when done, mods to make 125 horse Pinto is header, cam, mill
head. Still my main driver. |

My wife Leslie's '66 Mk I GT daily driver, bought from the original owner in '88, she has driven it over 250,000 miles, GT crossflow, lowline remote GT 'box, original rear diff. conv to alt, spin on filter, 3 row rad. |
|
A '66 Mk I Deluxe, owned since '81, in dry storage about 14 years, only about 50,000 mi on car, another hot crossflow that I built myself (cross my fingers), semi-close single rail 'box (auto tunnel). |
|
Block was bored .040 and decked .030 to get about 10.5 compression. 10/10 crank, lightened flywheel, mildly ported head, Schneider cam, stock manifolds with 32/36 Weber, steel rocker posts, 60's Anglia valve cover. 3 row rad, alt, electronic ignition. |
|
Next project, '64 GT, bought in '03, bog standard 1500 GT, wide
ratio trans, Arizona car, runs like a top. New! Latest! It's back with Paint! No more Patina! |
|
Future project car, '69 Estate, local car, 40,000 orig miles, mostly original paint. Vandalized by pellet gun, 3 windows shot out (all replaced now). Owned since '03. Hit heavy in rt 1/4, already had factory replacement 1/4 on it, fixed by Mike. 302 2 bbl. V8, T 5, narrowed 8", 3:0 gears. Note 15" Mustang GT wheels. Not driveable yet but it runs. |
