That one is 21, and that one in the previous picture is 22, right? Yeah, it was, so that one there is Jackie Stewart’s car."

"Is that Jackie Ickx? Yeah, that looks like Jackie Ickx’s build…That does look like Jackie Ickx’s build… whether that’s him… I knew Jackie Ickx, we knew him back then… I mean he wasn’t a big guy... that looks like his build… whether that’s him or not… I don’t know. I don’t know if that’s Trevor Taylor there… I don’t have that memory…"

"We was… in a Ford dealership in Washington DC or … Alexandria… I can’t remember…the name of the town there… we was in a Ford dealership operating out, preparing the cars when they came over, I remember that… ... Arlington! Arlington, Virginia, it was. That’s where it was at. That’s correct. Because, as I was a young lad, I thought that was kind of interesting… I remember that… I was kind of interested in their parts department for some unknown reason…. Its kind of strange, but I remember that. You have got to realize this is the first time I came to the States. So, its right… whenever you go somewhere, your kind of… eyes wide open. When people come to the States for the first time, I thought... Man, I wish I could have that same feeling… you're sort of like… "Wow, look at that… look at that… look at that"…you know, and its all so new…and I was sort of totally in awe of all of this…I mean, as a kid, I always wanted to come to the States and I really, really mean that…"

"This is off the subject, on a tangent, but…when I was a kid in school, I was… I had a baseball mitt and a baseball… and I had a Schwinn bike…an American Schwinn bike! You know, I was totally in awe of America and… then when I left school at 15… it all blew away, it all sort of went south, I never thought about it any more… and then I got the job at Lotus… and then… sure enough, I got the chance to go to the United States. Sure enough, where do I end up? I’m in the States! It’s kind of interesting… when you think about it…" [How old were you in… 1965?] "I’ve actually got the letter from Team Lotus… I think Andrew Ferguson was the team manager at the time… informing my mother that I was going to go to the States and would she give… her permission for me to go. And… you know, obviously, she did… I was probably,.. I would say…about 18 or 19? I think… I know I was still young…"

"I did work in Production. It’s kind of interesting. I got laid off from a job in England, it was a job they called plow fitting… and what it is, it's like construction equipment? But the dump trucks and equipment used on a construction site…so I went and looked in the newspaper… and there was this job for Lotus… in the newspaper… in the Cortina department…so I went there, and I got the job. And… they stuck me in the parts department. And, I didn’t really care, I was just a young kid, right? So… I’m in the parts department, and I do a reasonable job, it was a pretty easy job… all you had to do was basically… load up parts in your cart…take them around to the various stations… so the people that were assembling these cars didn’t run out of parts. Right? So all you did, was sort of like…inventoried their parts in their respective bins and so … oh, he needs more tachometers, or he needs more… gearboxes. Or this guy needs this and that. And so you just sort of basically wandered around and made sure everything was…was sort of taken care of. And… what happened was… for some unknown reason, I was doing a really good job of it… and they wanted to put me down to the Elan department… which was downstairs… and what happened was… I didn’t particularly want to go down there… because there was a lot more … it was a bigger job, a lot more activity and stuff. And I thought, “Oh, I don’t want to do that” So… I gave my notice in. I said, “I’m going to get another job, I’m out of here” And the manager, for some unknown, took a shine to me, and he says, “Oh, you know, don’t go" or whatever, I can’t remember the words. So, I don’t know, time passed, a week, 2 weeks, and he comes back to me, and he says, “How would you like a job in the Racing Department?” I said, “Oh… yeah… Sounds good!” And that’s how it all kicked off! And that’s how I got into there. The guy that was in charge of the racing… Lotus Cortinas… was a guy named Ray Parsons…and he was an Australian…He’s still around, I’ve read a little bit about him, and he was a driver, and, I don’t know, Chapman… put him in charge of this…sort of a semi-driver-type…Chapman put him in charge of Cortinas- or Lotus Cortinas…the Team Lotus ones, and I had an interview with him, and I started sweeping the floors and then that was it. That’s how it all kicked off."
